The border between Austria and Switzerland in the south eastern part of the Bodensee (Lake Constance) is marked by the Old Rhine (German: Alter Rhein), as the Rhine enters the lake there is a small peninsula on either side. The whole area is a nature reserve and exceptionally beautiful. Our focus was however, was on a small island east of the border where the last border marker BM#72 is located. We visited this point as part of the IBRG LIVCO-25 expedition.
This island is partially joined to the mainland by a spit, which when we were there was submerged, although it was possible to wade out to the island without too much difficulty.

Further border exploration
After meeting up with Bruno, an IBRG member from Austria, who was joining an expedition for the first time, rather than walking to the car park directly, we took a foot path along the bank of the Rhine to explore some more border markers.
