The Austria – Czech Republic – Germany Tripoint is a dry tripoint located within the Šumava National Park and the Bayrischer Wald nature area. We accessed the tripoint from a car park near the Berggasthof Dreisessel and walked along the Czech – German Border path to the tripoint, taking in the Bayerischer Plöckenstein on the way. The tripoint is marked by a three sided monument with national symbols on each side. The forest showed signs of environmental damage through bark beetle infestation. Interesting border signs and border markers en route.
The Old Tripoint Marker

A little know fact is what happened to the old tripoint border marker that marked the spot until 1993. Without fanfare or explanation it was taken to the nearby Austrian town of Schwarzenberg and placed in front of the town’s municipal office (Address: Hauptstraße 4, Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald, Austria). Many thanks to Steen Schelde (DK) for this information and photos.
