Szwajcaria Podlaska Nature Reserve (Podlasie’s Switzerland)

After leaving the Terespol – Brest border crossings we drove north to a small nature reserve established in 1995, on 24 ha around the Neple Village and the confluence of the Krzna RIver and the Bug River. This area is characterised by its fantastic landscape of lakes, bays, rivers and peace and quiet, all that was absent was the high peaks. The meandering Bug creates open and closed oxbow lakes, vast flood plains covered with lush meadows and reeds as well as alders, willows and poplars. The border between Poland and Belarus is very attractive here.

T34 Tank

The reserve aims to protect the environment and ecosystem of the river and riverside marsh areas.

At the entrance to the park is an old T34 Soviet Battle Tank which may or may not have been the first tank to cross the River Bug in July 1944.

I visited this POI as part of the IBRG ETPEX-24.

The border marker

The border marker was situated on the top of valley cliff. No BY marker was observed, most likely hidden in the vegetation on the other bank.

These observation posts are common on this part of the border.
