The westernmost point of Belarus
Our first visit of our final day was to the point where the Poland – Belarus border turns north-east away from the River Bug and becomes “dry”. It is at this point that the Polish border wall begins. Poland began building a border wall on the border with Belarus to prevent illegal immigration in 2022 after Belarus weaponised migration by pushing migrants towards the border. The wall is 5.5 m high and topped with barbed wire, there is extensive electronic surveillance as well.
We approached this POI from the opposite bank which gave us a good vantage point and removed any challenges we might face getting closer. We also found our first directional marker (indicated with a k). I visited this POI as part of the IBRG ETPEX-24.

The Bug river is very picturesque, and popular with bikers, canoeists and hikers. We parked the car at the disused ferry crossing and walked along the river bank. Eastern Poland is definitely a place for a relaxing holiday (as opposed to a fast paced border trip).

The Border fence
We walked along the river bank and through the trees until we reached the directional border marker. The border fence is a double barrier and looks impenetrable from where we stood.

Border marker #224k
This was the first directional marker we observed on this trip. The border markers on the opposite side of the river by the fence are numbered #224.
