Dhekelia Power Station

Dhekelia Power Station is one of three power plants belonging to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus. It is located approximately 15 kilometres east of the city of Larnaca and it has a capacity of 460 MW. Built in five phases, the current power plant consists of six steam turbines, each of a capacity of 60 MW[1] and six diesel engines of approximately 17 MW each. All boilers burn heavy fuel oil and were built by Waagner-Biro.

Within the eastern SBA there are a number of exclaves, these are the villages of Ormideia and Xylotymvou and the Dhekelia Power Station. The latter exclave is in fact 2, as it is divided by a SBA road that divides the Power Station from the EAC Refugee Settlement. Once again we did not have enough time to undertake a detailed examination of the exclaves borders but instead focused on a section.

The Power Station

The power station is located in the southern division along Larnaca Bay. Workers live in the northern division. The fence on the right marks the boundary

There were many markers.
BM visible against the fence.

The Pylon

As the map above indicates there is a deviation along the border to create a “notch” within this area a pylon is situated, with several markers surrounding it.

It was easy to follow the markers

The beach

Following the Power Station fence around it was possible to reach the beach, light was fading at this time, and the wind and sea spray made this an interesting spot. No formal border marker, although there was a tall pole at the fences end point which may well of been on the correct spot. It was not possible to see any buoys that marked the maritime border.
