The tripoint is located at the Resia Pass (2174m) near Piz Lad. The tripoint is marked by a border marker placed flat on top of a rock. The Dreiländergrenzstein is usually reached by taking the Mutzkopfbahn chair lift from Nauders (AT), walking in direction of Schwarzer See, and then the Grünsee Lake. A steep climb up the ATIT border leads to the tripoint. ATCHIT was established in 1919 by the cession of south Tirol from Austria to Italy. CHIT demarcations 1920 and 1924.
Unfortunately, on the day of our visit, the weather was appalling with heavy rain and a low cloud base. The looked forward views of the Reschensee and it’s famous clock tower which we visited

yesterday remained out of view. We choose to hike from the Rescher Alm, a mountain hut known for its regional cooking, that was sadly closed when we were there. The hike from Rescher Alm to the tripoint (Italy, Austria, Switzerland) is a moderate, roughly 3 hour, 10 km round-trip hike with about 300-700m elevation gain. Starting at 2,000m at the alp, the route winds through pine forests to the landmark, featuring historic World War II bunkers. The map below indicates the route we took, the trail passes through mountain pines, offering a mix of forest roads and alpine paths.
It follows the AT/IT border at point B and then again between point C and point D (on the map below). As the weather was so awful, unfortunately the photos I took were limited, as a Nikon DSLR and rain, is not a great combination. This is Tripoint #35 for me. My other European tripoint visits are reported here. We visited this point as part of the IBRG LIVCO-25 expedition.

The hike in…
It was a question of head down and walk quickly.

Border markers

The Tripoint
The tripoint is marked by a border marker placed flat on top of a rock. The country names are also inscribed on the side of the rock.

In the area surrounding the tripoint, there were 3 benches, each inscribed with an individual country flag, and information boards. In the past there was a small box with a stamp to commemorate your visit. The stamp however was missing when we visited.

Date of Visit: 28 August 2025
On a better day…
We did not really have the weather to fully appreciate the tripoint. One of our group, Steen has however visited this place before and the photos below show the sun does shine there, and the setting is glorious.
