The Schmilka -Hřensko border crossing was a major crossing point which linked the Saxon Switzerland National Park to the Czech Switzerland National Park. The road follows along the banks of the Elbe and in 2006 there were 2 separate border control points, one in Germany and one in the Czech Republic. There were duty free stores on the Czech side of the border.
