The Narva -Ivangorod railway border crossing is a major connection for both passenger and freight traffic between Estonia and Russia. It has been recently upgraded with X ray equipment being installed to screen freight transport. There is passport control facilities at Narva station. The crossing is behind security fencing on the Estonian side and old style watch towers and border guards with dogs on the Russian side, all clearly visible from the Estonian side of the river.
