Sonauli is a town area in Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh. It is located on the Indo-Nepal Border and is the major transit point between India and Nepal. The area is hectic and not a great place to stay. The border crossing has an integrated checkpoint.
On the Indian side, Sunauli is a dusty town in a poor and inhospitable part of Uttar Pradesh. The road through is clogged with heavily laden trucks and there are touts everywhere. The Nepalese side was much calmer.
